Making lighting more sustainable
With the completion of its second distribution centre, which was linked to the existing structure, the online department store Wehkamp now has a flexible, multifunctional distribution centre that covers a total surface area of 110,000 m2. Together with its partners (e.g. the installer Van Dalen), Wehkamp has consciously opted for sustainable growth. For example, the distribution centre has 5,000 solar panels (with a total of 15,000 panels on the entire building), 100% LED lighting, heat and cold generation, and electric charging stations. Due to the effective use of energy, Wehkamp’s new distribution centre has increased its energy efficiency by more than 30%. Veko has installed 11.5 km of LED linear lighting, with a total of 4,025 luminaires.
A one-metre luminaire with a diffuse lens was selected for use in the mezzanine, a Magnus with a narrow lens was chosen for the shelving aisles, and a circular lens was the best choice for the open spaces. The use of presence sensors has significantly reduced energy consumption, in line with Wehkamp’s ambition.
