Sustainability at Veko

At Veko, sustainable practices are at the heart of everything we do — from designing innovative and sustainable lighting solutions to packaging and shipping the products. For example, we minimise the amount of packaging used when packing and shipping light lines.

Veko works together with a variety of partners, including the aluminium supplier BOAL and the transporter E. van Wijk. These collaborations allow us to deliver high-quality line lighting in an environmentally friendly way.

In addition to our emphasis on sustainability in shipping, Veko is constantly working to improve energy consumption. We do this by using the CO2 Performance Ladder. Environmental consciousness is embedded within the organisation. Even in 1975, Veko recognised that it could be more economical by using prefabricated, pre-assembled aluminium linear lighting — and we are still doing that today. These fixtures are easily refurbished to LED. This is an example of how environmental awareness is encouraged throughout all levels of the organisation.

Sustainable collaboration between Veko and BOAL

Since 1975, Veko Lightsystems has worked closely with BOAL Extrusion in the production of aluminium profiles for our light lines. Aluminium is a deliberate choice, due to its light weight and durable properties. In addition to being robust and energy-efficient, this material is also fully recyclable. These 100% recyclable profiles help maintain Veko’s commitment to a circular economy and support our mission to provide sustainable line lighting without compromising on quality and performance.

CO2 reduction with HVO fuel

Since 2024, Veko has been a proud sustainability partner of E. van Wijk. As a result of this partnership, all transport provided by E. van Wijk now use 50% HVO fuel — a sustainable alternative to fossil diesel. In 2025, the next step will be taken towards fully sustainable transport by using 100% HVO fuel. This partnership is helping Veko to realise significant reductions in emissions, in addition to contributing to our broader sustainability goals.
With this collaboration, Veko is taking an important step towards sustainable line lighting for a variety of applications.

Sustainable projects

When making a building more sustainable, lighting is often overlooked, even though it is a big factor in energy savings. Renovating from fluorescent to LED can yield energy savings of over 50%. When a Light Management System is incorporated, these savings can even reach 80%. LED lighting has a return on investment of 3 to 5 years at most. CO2 footprint

Veko is constantly working to reduce its CO2 footprint by using energy very carefully. Veko is now certified at Level 3 of the CO2 Performance Ladder.

What concrete steps is Veko taking to reduce CO2 emissions?

The products are delivered pre-assembled and almost completely without packaging.
The energy-efficient LED light line is obviously also mounted in Veko’s own corporate premises, and it is lit only where there is activity and no daylight. Veko’s buildings are thus also illuminated in a sustainable manner.
We have an energy-efficient fleet consisting of hybrid and electric cars.
The Veko corporate premises are equipped with solar panels (770 in total).
We have several sales locations, close to the customer. Mutual consultation often takes place by telephone or video conference, keeping travel to a minimum.
